Field Cottage

Spanish holiday villa for rent in Andalucia, in the South of Spain.

Holiday villa to rent near Costa del Sol

Our holiday villa, Casa Mirador, which accommodates up to six people, is in the village of Gaucin set in the mountains of Andalucia, not far from the Costa del Sol. The view over the valleys to the Mediterranean Sea is breathtaking and takes in Gibraltar and the Moroccan Hills in the distance.

The villa is situated on the edge of the village and it takes only four minutes to walk to the centre.

It’s a year-round destination. Should you feel the need, the central heating, log fireplace and double glazing will take off any chill there might be in the winter.

The region of Andalucia, with its cultural diversity, is the embodiment of the real Spain which is characterised by mountains and valleys and otherwise dramatic scenery. Although the Costa del Sol coastal region has a lot going for it, just a few miles inland, Andalucia offers so much more: beautiful wild flowers, wildlife and birds which include vultures and eagles.

Gaucin is a good base from which to explore and visit the whole region and this beautiful part of Andalucia, with its picturesque white villages, clinging to the mountainside on the Serrania de Ronda mountainsides, or nestling in the valleys. Visit the national reserves and parks that have huge evergreen oak and cork forests.

The town of Ronda, half an hour’s drive through the mountains, is particularly interesting. See its stunning views and renowned gorge, the oldest bullring in Spain, a museum about bullfighting and typical Spanish tapas bars and shops.

An easy drive to the coast of the Costa del Sol will bring you to the resorts of Marbella, Puerto Banus, Estepona, Estepona Puerto, Sotogrande and La Duquesa. You will find marinas, restaurants, bars and markets offering antiques in addition to food, clothing etc.

If you’re a golfer, there are several courses about half hour drive away, including at La Duquesa, Valderrama, San Roque, Sotogrande and Almenara. There are also many golf courses on and close by the coastal road. For great sandy beaches go to Estepona, Sabinillas and San Pedro, which all have the usual refreshment facilities.

The Rock of Gibraltar, the walled town of Tarifa and Costa de la Luz, on the Atlantic coast, are all within reach. You can get to Morocco and Tangier by boat from Tarifa Port. If you fancy a day's drive, well worth visiting are Cordoba, Cadiz, Jerez, Seville and Granada.
